Stirling, despite today being a bustling centre of commerce and retail, will
always maintain its strong historical air. Surrounded by lush rolling
pastures and gentle hills which once provided the theatre for battles which
changed the destiny of every Scot.
Created a royal burgh by King David I Stirling's documented history is scant
before the 12th century, but there is reason to believe it was a strategic
and important town longer than that time - it is known for instance that King
Alexander I died at Stirling castle (1124).
