Killearn photograph to follow his village has a unique history in that it was saved from the relentless ravages of progress. It was in 1932 that a Mr G. Innes, in the finest tradition of philanthropic endeavour, decided that this pretty village was worth preserving and in so doing has given Scotland one of its most picturesque locations.

successful Glasgow businessman, Mr Innes decided to settle in Killearn, a fine little village just north of the city and in the shadow of the Campsie Fells. He set up the Killearn Trusts in an effort to protect the village from developments that would spoil its character, purchasing land for the future enjoyment of all. The Well Green was the first area to be 'protected' followed by the Glebe, from where a fine view of Loch Lomond can be enjoyed.

he Killearn Trusts also purchased some 18th and 19th century cottages in the village which would most certainly have been demolished. Mr Innes died in 1971 but the fine vision he had for this pretty Stirlingshire village continued with such deeds as a presentation of two stained glass windows to the Kirk's new Session House.

he stretch of road between Killearn and the neighbouring village of Balfron has become known as the King's Mile because King Edward VII was particularly fond of the beautiful scenery of the area and especially the views enjoyed from this road.
