ituated by the picturesque Allan Water, Dunblane is a pretty little town
with a long and fascinating history. The parish of Dunblane is wholly within
the boundaries of Perthshire but so close is the town itself to Stirlingshire
that we have entered it in both counties! As with neighbouring Bridge of
Allan this town was, in early Victorian times, known as a spa.
he history of the church here is an interesting and at times surprising one.
As the site of an early Celtic Church, together with the town's geographical
location, we have dedicated a separate section where you can read in more
detail the history of
Dunblane Cathedral - an attractive and
imposing structure situated at the heart of the old town and considered by
many to be the most beautiful church in Scotland.
he group of buildings known as the Little Houses are situated in
Sinclairs Street and Kirk Street and forming the cathedral precinct. These
were restored by the Ecumenical Council of Churches to serve as a retreat and
conference centre.
Dunblane, although a relatively small place, offers the visitor a fine choice of local accommodation where you can enjoy its semi rural tranquility whilst being within easy reach of the bustling centre of Stirling. |
