Crianlarich photograph to follow his small village is situated at the extreme western edge of the civil parish of Killin (at one time part of Perthshire), marking the meeting place of Glen Falloch, Strath Fillin and Glen Dochart.
The landscape here can at times appear a little austere, yet there is an attraction in the sometimes forbidding scenery which often fascinates the visitor.

len Dochart, that long stretch of land between Crianlarich and Killin), was for the most part Breadalbane country; to which both clan MacNab and clan Campbell lay claim, both clans having left their mark. The MacNab burial island is situated by the bridge at Killin, next to the beautiful Falls of Dochart. Travelling west along Glen Dochart, about a mile before Crianlarich, will bring you to Loch Dochart. There is a small island in this loch on which can be seen the ruins of a castle built by Duncan Campbell (1583-1631) of Glenorchy. This Campbell castle was burned in 1645 by the MacNabs.

trath Fillin takes it name from Saint Fillin, who brought Christianity to the Celtic peoples of Glen Dochart. A few miles north of Crianlarich will you to Kirkton where many believe Saint Fillan to be buried. The ruined wall foundations of the St Fillin Priory can still be seen.
