MacGregor memorial alquhidder (which is pronounced Bal-wh-idder) is not a town or village but a district, having earned its place in history as the home of Rob Roy MacGregor, whom you can read about in more detail in our dedicated history section.
Situated at the eastern end of Loch Voil, the Braes of Balquhidder have an air of haunting beauty which lends itself to all the fictional and factual tales connected with clan MacGregor, the Children of the Mist.

he 19th century church, a typically solid Victorian structure, stands beside the ruins of a much older church, erected in the early 17th century. It is here that you will find the last resting place of Rob Roy MacGregor, his wife Helen and two of his sons. This grave is visited regularly, as can be witnessed by freshly picked sprays of meadow flowers which rest upon it.

here is an excellent choice of quality accommodation in this most tranquil and picturesque part of the country, which continues to attract visitors from all over the world.
Anglers who enjoy catching both salmon and trout will discover they are spoilt for choice, hillwalkers too will find the choice of routes almost limitless. There is something here for everyone who appreciates the panoramic splendour of Scotland's unspoilt landscape.
