Height climbed: N/A Grade: N/A Parking: Pitlochry; Garry Bridge; Dunmore; Faskally; Killiecrankie Toilet facilities: Pitlochry; Killiecrankie; Loch Dunmore car park Starting from Pitlochry, leave the town on the north road and veer to the left down Clunie Bridge Road just as the houses end. This road leads to a boat station where rowing boats can be hired during the season. Continue along the path passed the boat station, before turning right to pass Loch Dunmore (where there is a car park). From here continue along the metalled road which is signposted to Killiecrankie. The road leads you round a bay in the loch and passed the Freshwater Fisheries Laboratory, before directing you sharp left down a small path which leads up the River Garry to the Garry Bridge and over the Pass of Killiecrankie, where there is another car park. From here you can either: continue up the east side of the river, through the picturesque river gorge; or you can cross the river by the footbridge just beyond the road bridge, turning sharp left to walk downstream once again. The latter path takes you south along the banks of the River Garry before turning west up the River Tummel. Continue along the side of the river, walking through an extensive larch wood and passing close by the rough water of the Linn of Tummel, before crossing it by a small suspension bridge called the Coronation Bridge. Turn left once over the bridge and continue along the metalled road down the west side of Loch Faskally, passing by the memorial arch commemorating the opening of the Clunie Power Station. There are four alternative crossing-points to return to Pitlochry:first Clunie Bridge to the north-west of the town; second, the dam with its fish ladder; third, the suspension bridge leading to the centre of the town and overlooked by the new Festival Theatre; fourth, Aldour Bridge, to the south-east end of Pitlochry. |
