Welcome to issue No. 1 of the Community Council’s Newsletter. If you
would like to know more, why not come along to the monthly meetings held on
the 3rd Monday of each month at 7.30pm in the Church Hall. Remember we are
here to represent the whole community and your views are important to us.
Meigle Community Council is represented on the Board of Strathmore and the
Glens Rural Partnership and the Community Learning Plan Committee for this
area.
Queens Golden Jubilee - June 2002. This will be an ideal
opportunity to stage a village event. If you have any thoughts on the matter
please let us know. A Street Party, Family Picnic/Barbeque, Gala Day, Flower
Festival & Exhibition celebrating Meigle have been suggested. If your
group are planning their own festivities, please contact the Community
Council as funding may be available and it avoids clashes with other events.
Road Safety Measures - following a meeting with Perth &
Kinross Council, we are pleased to report that most of the issues raised have
been taken on board. Full details are available from the Community Council. The Community Council were also instrumental in arranging for new signposts to be installed at Alyth showing visitors to the area the way to Meigle!
Take a Pride in Meigle - the Committee have been busy organising a
Bizzie Lizzie Competition at Meigle School - Arthur Stott from Newtyle is to
return on 4 September to judge the best plant. Thanks to everyone in the
village who helped to maintain the summer tubs. The work of the Committee
very much relies on volunteers and any offers of help with projects to
enhance the appearance village would be greatly received.
Meigle Youth Project are busy organising a Halloween party for the
children in Kinloch Hall on Saturday, 27 October. There is to be a fancy
dress competition so Mums be warned! A Christmas Party is also being arranged
for Saturday, 15 December. All offers of help, especially with the making of
decorations for the hall, would be greatly appreciated.

Dog Fouling - is still a problem. Most dog owners do carry plastic
bags and clean up after their pets, unfortunately a few folk are continuing
to let their dogs foul the pavements and grassy areas. The children’s play
area at Belmont is particularly bad at the present time. A small supply of
dog waste bags are available from the Community Council.
Mobile Bank - following a request from the Community Council, the
Royal Bank of Scotland have agreed to replace the Mobile Bank with a new
model which has a step to aid entry. This should come into service shortly.
Light Bulbs - we have negotiated a supply of energy saving light
bulbs from Scottish Hydro for the elderly in the village. These are to be
distributed in the near future.
Vandalism - there have been a number of incidents in the village
recently. The Police have asked us to pass on to you that if you are aware of
any vandalism taking place you should contact them immediately on 01250
872222 (Blairgowrie Police Station) or alternatively dial 999.
Vacancy on Community Council - Anyone who is interested in working
for the community and has time to spare is most welcome to apply. If you
would like to know more about what is involved, please speak to any of the
Community Councillors (a full list of representatives is available at the
Post Office).
Community Diary - Are you planning an event? A coffee morning
perhaps or a fund raising event such as a car boot sale or dance. When does
you committee meet? Please let the Community Council know. In this way you
will get better attendance by avoiding clashes with other events.
Congratulations to Meigle Cricket Club on becoming the Strathmore Union
Division One Champions.
