Finlarig Castle

A short walk east of Killin village will bring you to the ruins of Finlarig Castle, built by Sir Duncan Campbell (7th Laird of Glenorchy) better known as Black Duncan of the Cowl.
This castle, now in ruins, is well worth a visit. Over the main door there is a carving dated 1609 displaying the Coat of Arms of King James VI and Queen Anne, perhaps displaying a sign of royal approval of Sir Duncan.

Nearby you will see a pit (known as the beheading pit), where tradition says the gentry were executed, whilst the common people were hanged on a neighbouring oak tree.
