This walk passes through a number of different natural environments:
cultivated farmland; the banks of the River Turret; a variety of woodland -
mainly oak, beech and birch, but with an added selection of ash, alder,
chestnut and others.
The Crieff Nature Trail has been prepared by members of the Scottish
Wildlife Trust (in association with the Crieff Hydro Hotel, on whose land
the trail is situated). The Tourist Information Centre in the High Street
provides a very descriptive map of the trail, giving excellent information on
the flora and fauna, wildlife and geology of the area.
The trail starts from Culcrieff Farm and to reach this by car you should head
north-west along the A85 road to Lochearnhead. Turn right just outside Crieff,
along a small road which leads directly to the car park at Culcrieff Farm.
Alternatively, you can walk to the farm from Crieff.
The walk starts off heading south from the farm, before cutting back
northwards after a short distance and looping round behind Culcrieff to drop
down to the banks of the River Turret.
Along the route there are eight numbered posts, corresponding to extensive
notes on the descriptive map explaining the points of interest in the
immediate vicinity. By following these numbered posts, an exit point will be
reached on the farm road just short of the steading.
Leaving Crieff on the westbound A85 road to Comrie, turn right
immediately after the end of speed limit signs. This small road leads to
Culcrieff Farm (car parking available) where the trail begins. A series of
numbered posts lead you through mixed woodland and farmland.
