Scottish Towns Enochdhu to Spittal of Glenshee
Length: 6 miles
Height climbed: 1300ft./400m
Grade: A/B
Parking: Enochdhu or Spittal of Glenshee Hotel
Toilet facilities: None

This walk crosses the high land between the valleys of Strathardle and Glenshee, connecting by a direct route the two settlements of Enochdhu (15 miles north of Blairgowrie and 9 miles east of Pitlochry on the A924) and Spittal of Glenshee (19 miles north of Blairgowrie on the A93).
Whilst crossing the hills, watch out for the blue hare - quite common in this part of the Highlands - which turns white during the winter to camouflage itself against the snow. You might also catch sight of deer (red and roe) and both black and red grouse.

Starting from Enochdhu, look for the start of the route - a signposted path leading from the road into a stand of conifers. The path leads up a slope, passed a number of houses, before continuing to rise across open grass and moorland. The path splits 1.5 miles into the walk; follow the left hand branch, across the bridge over the Allt Dubhagan and on passed the conical peak of Elrig. Just beyond this hill the path begins to climb in earnest: crossing the Allt Doire nan Eun and heading for a saddle between two hills at the end head of the glen - An Lairg (2133ft/650m) - the highest point on the walk.
From this saddle there are fine views, particularly eastward: across Glenshee, up Gleann Beag on the far side, towards the ski slopes on the Cairnwell.

The remainder of the walk is a swift descent of the grassy slopes of the corrie before you (Coire Lairge), leading down to the Spittal of Glenshee Hotel by the roadside below.
You can return by the same route, but for those who are interested in a longer walk, a round route of some 17 miles can be made if this walk is joined with the "Enochdhu to Kirkmichael" and "Kirkmichael to Lair" routes.
