Blairgowrie, now the centre of the soft fruit industry in Strathmore, was once important to the jute industry. Along this route are a number of old mills - sadly, most are now in various stages of dereliction - as well as a number of mill-lades and weirs, which will be fascinating to anyone interested in industrial history.

Start the walk from the Wellmeadow, setting off down toward the River Ericht along Lower Mill Street and turning left along the river bank by the rose gardens. Continue along the river bank, through pleasant open woodland, to the Falls of Ericht and Donald Cargill's leap. Further upstream you will pass the jute mills of Oakbank. (Please be careful when looking at old buildings as they can be dangerous)

Carry on along the river bank until you reach the junction at Lornty Bridge. A short detour to the right will lead you up into the hills and give fine views across Blairgowrie and Strathmore. Otherwise, turn left and the quiet country road will lead you back - via some of the raspberry fields for which the area is famous - to Blairgowrie.
