photograph of Burntisland to follow ranted its burgh charter in 1540, Burntisland grew steadily around its little harbour, where the town thrived through its trade with the Low Countries.
Today Burntisland is a very popular holiday resort and can boast a wealth of quality accommodation and excellent restaurants.



ossend Castle, built in the 12th century by the monks of nearby Dunfermline, was originally the home of the abbots of Dunfermline although it later became a private residence. Through the centuries this castle has played host to several people who have had a hand in Scotland's history, not least Mary, Queen of Scots who stayed here in 1563.



n 1592 the parish church of St Columba in Burntisland was the first church in Scotland to be built after the turmoil of the Reformation. It has many fine features including a rather elaborate canopied pew presented to the church in the early 17th century by Sir Robert Melville, the then owner of Rossend Castle.
