ituated on the Leader Water in Lauderdale, Lauder was created a royal burgh
in 1502 (although there are claims to it being a burgh as long ago as
William the Lion). It is best known however for Thirlestane Castle, the seat
of the earls of Lauderdale, situated just north east of Lauder.
