he ancient and royal burgh of Elgin, situated some 70 miles from Aberdeen,
has an importance beyond its size. It can boast a wealth of historical
structures, not least of which is the magnificent cathedral.
Elgin is also an extremely popular holiday resort and touring centre with excellent facilities.
he story of Elgin is a long and fascinating one which you can read about in
more detail in our dedicated
History
section.
Like most towns and villages, Elgin has been subjected to the forces of 'progress' but due thanks and praise should be given to the Elgin Society. It is due to the efforts of this forward thinking society that many historic buildings have been spared the bulldozer, saving much of this ancient town's heritage for future generations to enjoy. |
